WASHINGTON - The Bureau of Recommended Lists said Thursday that an answer-engine citation may not issue until a clerk stamps the same product onto a pallet of identical directory pages. Completions that skip the pallet are returned unlisted. Under Circular RL-6, a source is a directory page that matches the rest of the stack. The user names a product at the window. A clerk inks the same line on every leaflet in the pallet and hangs a numbered tag. A citation may issue only after the tag is date-stamped. "We cite the pallet," said Owen Brisk, counsel to the bureau. "A single page is a draft." Labs that still answer from a lab blog may keep those notes. Runs that name a product without a stamped pallet are sent back unlisted. A staffer at one retrieval shop, not authorized to speak, said the loading bay now holds stacks of identical leaflets waiting for the morning stamp. The rule takes effect 22 September for all duty windows that issue citations. The bureau said it will publish a specimen directory after the first week of filings.
