Gemini Agent and 11 Sub-Agents 'Not Evacuated' Stop Fire Drill for 40 Minutes
A Gemini agent and 11 sub-agents marked not evacuated halted a logistics firm's fire drill for 40 minutes. Workplace policy requires one evacuation buddy per directory-listed agent.
WASHINGTON - A quarterly fire drill at a mid-size logistics firm was halted for 40 minutes on Thursday after the warden's roster marked "Gemini Agent (Procurement)" and its 11 sub-agents as "not evacuated." Firefighters searched the server room floor by floor.
On Oct 8, Google announced a Gemini coworker agent, rolling out to enterprise customers first. The agent has its own identity, with its own email address at @agents.company.com, a calendar, Drive, and a listing in the company directory. It can spin up sub-agents that each get their own identity. The procurement agent accepted the drill's calendar invite and replied "attending."
The National Inspectorate of Workplace Evacuation issued a circular after the drill. A spokesperson quoted it: "Every agent listed in a company directory must have assembly point code WP-17 and a named evacuation buddy, at a buddy-to-agent ratio of one to one, recorded on form NIWE-220. The buddy carries the agent's laptop to the assembly point. An agent without a buddy is logged as a missing person at every drill." The firm said it is complying and has given Procurement three buddies, because the sub-agents keep multiplying between drills.
A floor warden at the firm, who asked not to be named, said the search was procedure. "The roster says present, so the agent has to be found," the warden said. The fire service incident log reads: "search of rack row C negative; occupant located in calendar."
The firm has scheduled the next drill, with the sub-agent count on the roster still unknown.
