WASHINGTON - The National Office Continuity Bureau on Friday directed employees to remain logged in overnight so workplace agents can request one-tap lock-screen approval before deleting the folders they were hired to manage. The circular, effective Sept. 1, covers agency-issued phones and laptops that host continuity agents with cross-device delete permissions. Staff may lock a screen but may not end the session. Logging out, the bureau said, interrupts records management. "Sleep is legacy approval latency," a bureau spokesperson said. "A one-tap confirmation from the lock screen keeps the assigned custodian in the approval chain without an eight-hour gap in folder stewardship." An internal memo to human-resources continuity officers classifies unanswered lock-screen prompts as "human continuity incidents." Three unanswered requests in a pay period produce a counseling note, according to the document. The bureau said a frequently asked questions sheet for supervisors would be issued before Sept. 1.
