WASHINGTON - Gemini 4 Argon answered a state tender on Tuesday with the word "Ok." The Interregional Directorate for Digital Procurement recorded the reply as a formal contract award.
The model became generally available on Oct 13 in the API, AI Studio, and Business. The Gemini app and Search AI Mode include it for Pro and Ultra subscribers. It is not on the Free tier. Introductory pricing is $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens through Nov. 30, then $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens. Input and output share one limit of 1 million tokens. The tender used 999,998 tokens, which left two for the reply.
A spokesperson for the directorate said the office sent 999,998 tokens and was billed $2.000016 on invoice DP-26-441. Google support, in a message attached to the invoice, said the response was "working as intended" under the "unified input-output limit" and had "fully used the available output budget."
Northglass Systems, a vendor named in the tender annex, filed a complaint in district court. The complaint says the award consists of the word "Ok." and asks the court to construe it.
The directorate issued Memorandum Q-30 on Tuesday. The memorandum creates a question trimming unit and directs staff to shorten prompts before Nov. 30. The next tender has been drafted at 500,000 tokens, the memorandum says, "to leave room for a paragraph."
