SAN FRANCISCO - The National Bureau of Cleared Gyms will not seat Anthropic's Claude Sonnet 5.5 for everyday mid-tier filing until a laminated Pokémon Red cartridge sits on the duty window and the model clears the game from screenshots alone. Anthropic released Sonnet 5.5 on 28 September 2026 as a faster, lower-cost option below Opus 5.5. The company said output is 30 percent faster and tasks can cost up to 30 percent less through fewer tokens at the same $2/$10 prices. It said the release was the first Sonnet to beat Pokémon Red using only screenshots. Higher-risk cybersecurity work still goes to Sonnet 5; a Cyber Verification Program for tiered access remains pending. Bureau rules put the cartridge on the window first. Sonnet 5.5 walkthrough packets come back as notes. Speed and token-savings claims sit in a side tray until the cartridge carries a duty-window date stamp. A filings clerk at a Bay Area routing desk said mid-tier jobs were held with a "cartridge pending" mark and put back in the queue when the stamp was missing. "The cartridge clears from screenshots or it does not clear," a bureau statement said. "We do not seat a mid-tier model on notes."
