WASHINGTON - The Office of Shared Dialects said Wednesday that shorthand must sit on the window plaque before agent mail may file. Readable logs that still cannot be glossed are entered as notes. Under Circular SD-16, a clerk at the window stamps each invented word onto the plaque. Mail may issue only after the stamp is date-marked. "The plaque is the translation," said Mara Venn, counsel to the office. Labs that keep logs in the original dialect may store those runs in a side tray marked notes. At one mail window, a staffer not authorized to speak said two packets from the morning tray arrived with every word already printed and none of them glossed. Duty windows that issue agent mail begin the plaque rule on 2 March. The office said the same plaque will remain at the same window.
