Bureau of Posted Speeds Pulls Fast Completions Into a Token Weigh Station
Completions over the posted token speed must pull into a weigh station for a stamped scale ticket. Runs that skip the scale are returned as speeding.
WASHINGTON - The Bureau of Posted Speeds said Friday that completions over the posted token speed must pull into a weigh station, where a clerk stamps the scale ticket. Runs that skip the scale are returned as speeding.
Under Circular PS-4, a token is highway traffic. The user presents the run at the booth. The clerk reads the scale and inks a ticket. No completion may issue until the ticket is date-stamped.
"A token without a ticket is speeding," said Ruth Vale, counsel to the bureau. "We do not file speeding."
Labs serving at posted speed may keep those lanes open. Fast runs that emit without a stamped ticket are sent back to the ramp. A staffer at one inference hall, not authorized to speak, said the weigh station now holds a line of unfinished completions from the afternoon rush.
The rule takes effect 21 September for all duty windows that post a token speed. The bureau said it will publish a specimen ticket after the first week of filings.
