SAN FRANCISCO - Meridian Laboratory, a frontier model developer preparing a public listing, said Sunday that users will not be permitted to read completed answers until the replies have been cleared by the company's Office of Response Margin. An internal memo circulated 14 August said each generation would be scored against fully loaded inference cost and an allocated share of subscription revenue. Replies that fall below the contribution-margin floor for the current period are to be placed on a period-end hold and withheld from the product. "Answers that are unprofitable in the present quarter will be held until the next reporting period," a laboratory spokesperson said. "The Office of Response Margin exists so that what users read is consistent with the gross-margin trajectory set out in our listing materials." Two enterprise customers said they had already received a notice that a response was complete and pending margin certification. The policy takes effect 1 September and will remain in force through the listing window, the memo said. The laboratory declined to state the numeric floor.
